DIRECT LAWYER INVOLVEMENT
Eligibility, strategy and application preparation handled with counsel involvement throughout the file.
Study Permit Applications
For foreign nationals seeking authorization to study at a Canadian designated learning institution, including first-time applications, extensions and changes in study circumstances.
A study permit application may involve a letter of acceptance, provincial or territorial attestation requirements, financial evidence, study purpose, temporary intent and accompanying family members.
Post-Graduation Work Permits
For eligible graduates seeking an open work permit after completing a qualifying Canadian program.
Applications may involve program eligibility, full-time study history, academic gaps, application timing, language results, field-of-study requirements, restoration or previous refusals.
Temporary Resident Visas
For students and graduates who need a visa to travel to Canada.
A study permit or work permit is not a travel document. Extending a permit also does not automatically result in a new temporary resident visa.
Restoration of Status
For students or recent graduates who lost temporary resident status and need to assess restoration, a new permit and the effect on their authorization to study or work.
A person applying to restore student status may remain in Canada while the application is processed but cannot continue studying until status has been restored and a new study permit has been issued.
WHICH STUDENT IMMIGRATION OPTION MAY APPLY?
International student requirements can change at each stage of the academic journey.
The institution and program, permit expiry date, study history, travel plans, immigration compliance and post-graduation goals should be reviewed before determining the correct application.
01.
You Have Been Accepted to a Canadian School
A study permit application may require a valid letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution, a provincial or territorial attestation letter unless an exemption applies, financial evidence and a clear explanation of the proposed studies.
As of January 1, 2026, master’s and doctoral students enrolled at public designated learning institutions are among the applicants exempt from the PAL or TAL requirement. Other exemptions may also apply
02.
Your Study Permit Will Expire Before You Finish
A study permit extension should generally be filed before the current permit expires.
A student who applies before expiry may remain in Canada and continue studying under the conditions of the original permit while IRCC processes the extension application, provided the applicable requirements are met.
03.
You Are Completing or Have Completed Your Program
An eligible graduate may qualify for a post-graduation work permit.
Eligibility can depend on the institution and program, full-time study history, application timing, language results and, for some applicants, field of study. Post-graduation work authorization and permanent residence eligibility are separate assessments.
04.
You Need to Travel, Restore Status or Address a Refusal
A study permit is not a travel document. Depending on citizenship and method of travel, a separate temporary resident visa or electronic travel authorization may be required.
If temporary resident status has expired or an application has been refused, restoration, reapplication, reconsideration or judicial review may need to be assessed separately. These options have different requirements, legal effects and deadlines.
