- Temporary Resident Visa – Azizi Rostami v. Canada, 2025 FC 920: Iranian applicant’s TRV was refused over concerns about financial sufficiency and weak ties outside Canada. The Court found the officer unreasonably excluded rental property income and mischaracterized bank statements. Concerns about family ties were not justified. Judicial review granted. Read more
- Study Permit – Farhadi v. Canada, 2025 FC 917: Iranian applicant’s study permit for an ESL and post-graduate business program was refused. The officer questioned the program’s value given her prior work and found that travelling with her spouse and child weakened her ties to Iran. The Court found the officer failed to assess remaining ties and the rationale in her study plan. Judicial review granted. Read more
- Canadian Experience Class – Karsou v. Canada, 2025 FC 928: Palestinian applicant’s PR application under the Canadian Experience Class was refused due to a missing employment letter outlining job duties. The Court found the officer overlooked this letter, which had been submitted through the portal, amounting to a breach of procedural fairness. Judicial review granted. Read more
- Mandamus – Mao v. Canada, 2025 FC 932: Chinese applicant sought mandamus due to a lengthy delay in study permit processing after two deferrals. IRCC later refused the application for failure to complete a medical exam. The Court admitted a new affidavit confirming the refusal and found the matter moot. Application dismissed. Read more

- Credential Recognition for Newcomers – March 20, 2025: The Government of Canada is investing $52M to fund 16 projects through the Foreign Credential Recognition (FCR) Program to help over 4,600 internationally trained professionals join the healthcare and construction sectors. These initiatives aim to speed up credential assessments, provide Canadian work experience, and address labour shortages. This builds on Budget 2024’s $50M investment and supports newcomers in integrating more quickly into the workforce, with a focus on roles in nursing, trades, paramedicine, radiography, social work, and more. Provincial Government News
- Saskatchewan Exhibit on Chinese Immigration: Government House is launching “We Are Immigrants,” a new exhibit by Raeann Kit-Yee, highlighting the overlooked struggles and contributions of early Chinese Canadian immigrants. The opening event on May 24, 2025, features a lion dance, Chinese folk dancing, Tai Chi, and a reception. The exhibit runs until September 25, 2025, and is open daily, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Read more
- Yukon Nominee Program: Yukon has started emailing invitations to selected employers who submitted an expression of interest (EOI) during the 2025 intake. Others are being notified if they were either ineligible or added to the random selection pool. Demand exceeded the 215 nomination spots available. Priority is given to employers supporting candidates who: held a temporary measure letter, have lived/worked in Yukon for 1+ year, are Yukon University grads, or are Francophone. This shift from a first-come model aligns selections with 2025 labour priorities, based on industry and business feedback. Read more

Important Upcoming Dates
- June 28, 2025: Alberta’s 13-member advisory committee will submit its report on improving foreign credential recognition to the Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism. Read more
